As I mentioned to Dr. Sattler, I missed the first class as I
am in France for my best friend’s wedding, so I was not present for the
discussion in class. I understand it was
a really good general discussion about environmental exposures. I think so many people simply do not even
realize what we are exposed to on a daily basis. Our senses are truly under attack from our
surroundings, and this occurs no matter where you live, though obviously it is
more of an issue in some places than others.
I personally have always been very aware of the environment and
surroundings as since childhood I’ve had pretty severe allergies. I suppose it’s something I’ve been “trained”
to do over the years in order to not become sick. In any case, I think on a regular basis, we
are breathing in things that are terrible for our bodies. Beyond that, we eat and drink things loaded
with chemicals and compounds we can’t pronounce or even begin to
understand. Even further, we use
cleaning products and count on things to manage our daily lives with expose us
to countless things that may be harmful.
It almost makes it seem like each day is a gamble. Like when will it be the final “thing” that
pushes our body to its limit.
Hi Doug,
ReplyDeleteI agree that it seems like everyday we are exposed to things that are terrible for our bodies. It's good to hear that you've had an awareness of these things since a young age (though sorry to hear about the allergies!). My mother instilled a lot of this knowledge in me from an early age, so I feel fortunate that I've been using natural products and eaten organic food most of my life. It's so easy to pick up a product in the drug store and not think about the health impacts. I still have a few products I need to exchange for healthier ones. Awareness is the first step!

Hey Doug,
ReplyDeleteI agree, many people do not realize or think that we are exposed to various chemicals on a daily basis. I honestly never put much thought into it until now. The air we breathe in comes with many particles that can do harm but fortunately we have a system that purifies what we inhale and exhale. I too suffer from allergies since childhood and I feel like it gets worse during certain seasons in the year. Unfortunately, we cannot avoid the chemicals that go into our bodies, but we can educate ourselves on how to limit the intake and make wiser choices as consumers.
